Why a Venue Beats the Basement

Halloween parties tend to outgrow the house faster than any other kind. Costumes take up space. People stand rather than sit. There is usually a bar, and increasingly there is a DJ. Add thirty adults to a finished basement and it gets warm and loud fast.

Moving it out means nobody is hiding valuables, nobody is cleaning up at 1am, and no one is worried about a costume knocking over a lamp.

What Fall Parties Look Like Here

The banquet hall seats up to 325 and has a full dance floor, so a costume party with a DJ has room to actually be a party. Three walls of windows make it easy to decorate without fighting the room, and the space takes dim lighting well when you want atmosphere.

For early October, the grounds are still worth using. Cocktail hour on the deck as the sun goes down is a good start to an evening, and the gardens and gazebo are at their best in early fall.

Fall menus are the easy part. Because our kitchen is in house, the menu is built with you rather than picked from a card. Things that work in October:

• Carved entrees with seasonal sides
• Cider, seasonal cocktails and a full bar with professional bartenders
• A dessert table instead of a cake, which fits the mood better

Book Earlier Than You Think

October Saturdays are wedding dates first. The weekends around Halloween go early, and the last two weekends of the month are the first to fill. If you are planning a party for next October, calling in spring is not too soon.

Friday nights and Sunday afternoons stay open longer and cost less, and for a costume party a Friday is arguably better anyway.
