Awards Banquets and Recognition Dinners for Rochester Companies

Published October 29th, 2026 by Chef's Event Center

An awards banquet is one of the few company events where the point is not the food or the venue. The point is that someone's name gets read out loud in front of their peers. Everything else exists to make that moment land.

Get the Room Right First

Awards nights fail in predictable ways, and most of them are room problems. People at the back cannot hear. The screen is washed out. The stage is in a corner so half the tables watch the speaker's back.

Ask three things of any venue: where does the presenter stand, where does the screen go, and can every table see both. Our banquet hall seats up to 325 with a clear sight line and a dance floor that doubles as a presentation area, so the honoree walks up in front of the room rather than around it.

Feed People Before You Talk

A hungry room is a restless room. Serve dinner, clear plates, then start the program. Awards after dinner also means late arrivals have caught up and nobody is walking in during a speech.

Because catering is in house, the kitchen works from your program rather than the other way round. If the awards run long, service adjusts. See the sample menus.

"We had the pleasure of working at Chef's Event Center as a vendor this past weekend with our business, Manna Boards, where we brought our cart to serve guests mini cannolis, and we were truly so impressed." - Kira Smith

Run the Program Tight

  • Cap the speaking list. Every executive who speaks adds real minutes, not the two they promise.
  • Give presenters a script with names spelled phonetically. Mispronouncing an honoree's name is the one mistake people remember.
  • Photograph every handshake. Those photos are the internal communications for the next six months.
  • Keep the whole program under an hour. Then open the bar and let people talk.
  • Have the awards at the venue early, staged where guests see them when they walk in.

Ask about dates and headcount. Start here.

Events in This Category

Employee recognition and service anniversary dinners. Sales awards nights. Nonprofit volunteer appreciation. Trade and union apprenticeship graduations. Chamber and association award dinners. Retirement send-offs for someone with thirty years in.

All of them share a shape: dinner, a program, and time afterward for people to actually talk to each other.

The Practical Details

We book one event at a time, so your program is not competing with a wedding DJ through the wall, and the parking lot is not shared. Parking is free and on site, which matters when 200 people arrive inside twenty minutes.

We are at 1875 North Union Street in Spencerport, about 20 minutes from downtown Rochester and roughly 15 from Greece, Gates and Chili. Every event gets a designated coordinator, so the person at your company who got handed this project is not also running it on the night.
