First Communion and Confirmation season arrives in a cluster every spring, and it catches families the same way every year. The church date gets set, the extended family confirms, and suddenly forty or sixty people need somewhere to eat afterward.
Chef's Event Center & Party House in Spencerport, about 20 minutes from downtown Rochester, hosts sacrament luncheons for families across Monroe County. Here is how to plan one without spending the morning of your child's sacrament setting up a folding table.
Planning a spring sacrament? Call (585) 352-3300 or contact us early, these dates cluster.
This is the single most useful thing in this article. First Communion and Confirmation dates fall on a handful of weekends every spring, and every family in every parish is looking for a room on those same days. If you know your parish's typical weekend, call before the official date is announced and ask what is open.
Families who wait until the invitation arrives are choosing from what is left.
A sacrament luncheon is usually thirty to eighty people, which is exactly the size that overwhelms a house. Relatives come from out of town. Grandparents need to sit. Somebody has to cook for all of them on a morning when the family should be at church.
Moving it to a venue means you go to the church, take the photos, and arrive somewhere the food is already waiting. Nobody in your family works that day.
"We had our daughter and son in law's wedding here in June 2026. I cannot say enough praise about this venue. The venue was stunning, the food was amazing and the staff were exceptional." - Evelyn Sandberg
Check spring availability now. Reserve a date.
Sacrament luncheons tend to be daytime, which means brunch or a lighter lunch rather than a full dinner service. Buffets work well here because relatives arrive from church at slightly different times and people can eat when they are ready.
Because Chef's Catering is in house, we can build to a family budget rather than a package. Look through the sample menus and tell us your number and headcount. A children's option is easy to add, and dietary needs are planned in advance rather than improvised.
By late April and May, the grounds are worth the trip on their own. The formal gardens, the gazebo, and the pond give you somewhere for the family photographs that actually looks like something, and somewhere for children to burn off an hour. The multi-level deck is where the adults end up with coffee.
The banquet hall seats up to 325 but lays out comfortably for forty, and because we book one event at a time, a family of fifty still has the whole place.
The same applies to baptisms, christenings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and graduation gatherings. All of them share the same shape: a service somewhere else, then a meal with extended family, on a date that half the county also wants.
Call early, tell us the headcount, and let us handle the rest.
