Vow Renewals Near Rochester, NY: Celebrating the Anniversary That Deserves a Party

Published July 5th, 2026 by Chef's Event Center

A lot of couples never got the wedding they wanted. They married at a courthouse, or during a stretch when large gatherings were not possible, or they simply could not afford a celebration at twenty-three. Ten, twenty-five, or forty years later, they can.

Vow renewals are one of the most genuinely joyful events we host, and they come with almost none of the pressure of a first wedding.

Thinking about renewing your vows? Call (585) 352-3300 or contact us.

Why These Events Are Different

Nobody is nervous. There is no question about whether the families will get along, because they already have for decades. There is no seating chart drama and no one debating tradition. The couple knows exactly who they want in the room.

The result is an event that tends to be warmer and looser than a wedding, and one where the food and the company matter more than the staging.

The Common Occasions

  • A milestone anniversary, most often the tenth, twenty-fifth, or fiftieth.
  • The wedding they never had, finally held properly with everyone present.
  • After something hard. An illness, a long separation, a rebuild. These are often the most moving of all.
  • A destination wedding done over for the family who could not travel the first time.

How to Structure the Day

Most vow renewals here run shorter and simpler than a wedding. A brief ceremony, usually outside near the gazebo or in the gardens, then straight into a meal. Many skip the processional, the wedding party, and the formal dances entirely, and nobody misses them.

What tends to matter instead:

  • Children and grandchildren having a role. Often the best part of the ceremony.
  • A slideshow of the decades in between.
  • Photos that actually exist. Many couples have almost none from the original day.
  • A real dinner, since this is fundamentally a family meal with a ceremony attached.

The Practical Advantages

Vow renewals are usually easier to budget than weddings for three reasons: guest lists are smaller and more carefully chosen, there is no wedding party with associated costs, and couples are far more willing to take a Friday, a Sunday, or an off-season date. That flexibility translates directly into better pricing.

The banquet hall works just as well for fifty as for three hundred, laid out appropriately. And because we book one event at a time, a group of sixty still has the entire property, which gives a smaller gathering a sense of occasion that a partitioned ballroom cannot.

The Food Question

For an event that is essentially a large family dinner, this is the part worth spending on. Chef's Catering is in house, and menus are built with you rather than picked from a fixed card, which matters when you want the dish that has meant something to your family for thirty years. Start with the sample menus and we will go from there.

Anniversary Parties Without the Ceremony

Not every couple wants to say vows again, and that is fine. A milestone anniversary party with dinner, a bar, a slideshow, and everyone in one room accomplishes the same thing. We host both, frequently.

Whichever version you want, tell us what the day is really about and we will build around it.
