A venue is not just a room. It is a room plus roughly twenty things you stop noticing because they are already there. In a backyard, you rent every one of them:

• A tent sized for your guest count, plus sidewalls if the weather turns.
• Flooring, because grass and heels and rain do not mix.
• Tables, chairs, linens, china, glassware, and flatware.
• Restrooms. A house bathroom cannot serve 150 people.
• Power. Catering equipment, lighting, and a band will trip residential circuits.
• Lighting, once the sun goes down.
• A catering kitchen or prep area, since a home kitchen cannot plate for a crowd.
• Parking and often a shuttle, unless your road can absorb 60 cars.
• A rain plan that is not "hope."

The Rain Question
